Catalina Express design
Logo + Stationary Redesign
Project Brief
Logo design is a very important skill in graphic design since logos are what creates a brand identity. Since logos are constantly evolving as new businesses are formed, most logos need to continue to be updated to keep up with popular trends. The goal of this project was to redesign a logo for an existing transportation company that represents their qualities as well as a stationary set that includes a letterhead, envelope, and business card.
Creative Direction
Since this was a project that was assigned during my time at Cal State University, Long Beach, I decided to choose a transportation company that was near and dear to the city’s heart — the Catalina Express. Long Beach is one of the boat’s main destinations along with San Pedro and Dana Point. The Catalina Express is known to be able to transport visitors from these locations to Catalina Island at a very fast rate, which was why I wanted to approach this using an Art Deco design. The perspective of the logo emphasizes the boat’s scale to represent its power and security. The different shades of blue used on this project is to allow visitors to feel as if they are just getting off the boat and looking into the beautiful, clear waters once they’ve arrived at Catalina Island. The pattern on the letterhead and envelopes also represent gentle waves.
